These are just some of the pending stuff - Wish I had a Personal Secretary. Kidding :P All this on top of working on a part time job. Its work, work and more work! I am on the computer all the time. Life without internet is impossible. All our assignments are done via internet. I feel like I am a typist or a Administrative Secretary!

Am I good enough for my School? THAT should be the real question!

I got an email yesterday from a prospective student from South Asia who was asking me for advice regarding the MBA program at TRSM (I get a lot of emails from people all over the world, asking me about MBA programs in Canada, thanks to my blogs). He asked me "Is the Ryerson MBA good enough for me to join?" In one word, Yes.

I think this would be the best answer that I could give him: "The Ryerson MBA is great. I can guarantee that it shall give you everything that you want in an MBA program. But  after a while, you begin to ask yourself the question Am I good enough for the program?"

The MBA program is what you can make of it. You are the CEO of your destiny. And it is upto you to utilize the MBA program to your best advantage. The Ryerson MBA gives you ALL the tools that you need to succeed. But I dare anyone if he or she is able to even utilize all the tools. What I mean by this is that even though there are so many benefits, info sessions, seminars, guest lectures, job fairs and so on conducted by the TRSM MBA, I can not myself find the time to attend all of them. I am infact missing out on so many goodies - when I wish that I could have attended them. And then, what gives me the right to judge a program when I myself am not living upto all that the school has to offer?.(Practically, though, its just not possible to do everything - Cmon, we are just human, not super human to do so much at once!)

I think henceforth, I shall stop asking the question "Is the school good enough for me?". I shall start asking myself "Am I good enough for the school?". This realization took a while, but I am not perfect. And there are tons and tons of people out there even better. But you do not give up. You keep on working and doing your best. Ultimately, it is not how many marks you get or what grade, but how you apply your knowledge in the real world and succeed!

The stress is getting to me, while doing the MBA...

This is just the 2nd month now, and it feels like eternity! I feel that I am sinking in the sea of work that comes my way!

Life is becoming a routine and the stress is getting to me. Its same old, same old, everyday. There is a quite a lot fo work. In the beginning, it was like "Oh, its no problem, I can manage" and I typed off, without paying too much attention. MBA is so damn easy, I thought! But then, I realised that in ordeer to get better grades, it is not enough to just put in some minimal energy and input. You have to put in a LOT of energy.

And that is what is making life even more difficult. Its not easy to keep up with everything. I feel that I do not have free time for myself anymore. So, for now, I struggle with my MBA program and give it my best shot. In the beginning, I was all excited like "Yay, I am going to get A+ in all courses". But now, I feel that it humanly impossible or extremely difficult to get A+ in all MBA subjects. Hats off, if someone has done that already.

Meanwhile, I am trying to find more efficient ways to go through life. Perhaps I need to apply the Toyota Principles to all this!

Toast Kaizen Video Clip - Introduction to Lean Manufacturing

Had presentation today. I did ok, could have done better

I had a presentation today about Toyota Production System and The Toyota Way. This was a mini presentation which I had volunteered for, myself actually!

What did I have to do to prepare for this?
  • Study books
  • Search the internet
  • Make power point slides
  • Think of how to create the content
  • Reorganize content innumerable times
  • Redo the power point slides innumerable times
  • Practice presentation by myself
  • Rush to meet the deadline (infact most of the work was done 4 hours before the presentation)
  • Freak out
  • Study more last minute
  • Try to act calm even though not all was hunky dory
  • But up a brave front and go for it!
  • Present myself in class to be available for the presentation
  • Actually make the presentation!
Presentation went well, even though it could have been better. Next time, I shall make sure to:
  • Practice, practice, practice
  • Be ready with presentation much in advance, rather than  last minute!
The video of my presentation, called Kaizen Toast is embedded above - Enjoy!
