This blog documents my MBA student life at Ryerson University, Canada (2010-2012). It was an attempt to demystify the MBA experience, help understand MBA topics & encourage MBA wannabes. I have a Pre-MBA blog about B-School application process (and a few other blogs) as well. I used to blog actively in the past and interact with readers regularly, but life got very busy after my MBA. Good luck. Take care. Cheers! Gerry.

About PMI and certifications: CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) & PMP (Project Management Professional).
The Project Management Institute is a not for profit organization for advancing the field of Project Management.
Of the various certifications they offer, two of them are particularly attractive to me. One of them being the CAPM certification and the other being the PMP certification. I went online on www.pmi.org and registered myself with PMI. Then, I applied for registration for thye CAPM test. I was approved !!! Yay! Now, I need to take the test within 12 months to get my CAPM designation! In the near future, I shall also try to get the PMP designation. I am so happy that I got started with the Project Management Program.
Another thing I shall do is become a member of the PMI (Project Management Institute) as well as a member of the local Toronto chapter of the PMI. The nearest chapters for us are:

CKPM202: Fundamentals of Project Management course
I shall be taking this course during the summer term, from 27th June, 2011 to August 10th, 2011. This is a 42 hour course on the basics of PM. This is an introduction to Project Management. The timings are as below:
CKPM202 : Fundamentals of Project Management (at Chang School)
Monday : 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM
Wednesday : 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
(Classes are held at the George Vari Engineering School at the intersection of Church & Gould).
Now, this is not a prescribed course for the MBA program, even though we do have another Project Management course held for the MBA-MTI students. However, I am extremely interested in Project Management myself. The reason being project management is a talent that every MBA graduate should have, in my personal view. Plus, I am interested in the CAPM & PMP certifications that help you enhance your resume tremendously. I did not want to waste time sitting at home and hence thought that this was a good things to do. I am glad that I got started on my journey with Project Management. I hope this is a lifelong love affair!
The prescribed books for this course are as below:
(1) PMBOK (Project Management Body Of Knowledge) Guide 4th Edition.
(2) Successful Project Management, 3rd Edition, by Gido & Clements.
(3) The Fast Forward MBA in Project Management by Eric Verzuh.
