This blog documents my MBA student life at Ryerson University, Canada (2010-2012). It was an attempt to demystify the MBA experience, help understand MBA topics & encourage MBA wannabes. I have a Pre-MBA blog about B-School application process (and a few other blogs) as well. I used to blog actively in the past and interact with readers regularly, but life got very busy after my MBA. Good luck. Take care. Cheers! Gerry.

My dream MBA exchange programs
The OVGS (ONTARIO VISITING GRADUATE STUDENT) program: Elective in another Business school within Ontario for the Winter 2012 term.
Yo Boyz,
Check out the OVGS program, LOL.
If you are in the 2nd term of Business School (or later), you have the option of doing one or more of your elective courses in another Business School.Check out the link:
http://ocgs.cou.on.ca/_bin/home/ovgs.cfmWhat you need to do:
- Contact your program administrator
- Discuss with him about the program that you wish to take in another Business School
- Fill out the form for your School
- Fill out the form for the target school
- Get approval
- Pay fees in your own University
- Go ahead and do the program in the target school
I know that one of my class mates is planning to do a course from Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.
Get maximum exposure + Be flexible + Take your time.
3 things I have learnt from my MBA experience so far:
At this stage, I am still discovering what I want and have decided not make an immediate commitment to a job. Lets see how things work out :)
- Be flexible / Have an open mind
- Gain maximum exposure
- Do not make hasty decisions / Take your time
At this stage, I am still discovering what I want and have decided not make an immediate commitment to a job. Lets see how things work out :)
I have an idea for making an amazing Documentary Film
I have an idea to make a documentary film - for YouTube, if not for the theatre, LOL. Sounds crazy / way too ambitious, I know. Lemme see if I can do it. Need to constantly keep challenging myself and look to conquer greater heights. Status quo sucks in so many ways! Having started with making short clips on Youtube has given me some confidence. I even learnt about video editing using Windows Movie Maker... All you need is a HD video camera, a good videographer, a director, research material and off you go! Movie making has never been easier in all of history!Plus, I have the research material ready and I can actually visualize the whole movie in my mind right now :)
The topic that I have in mind is a controversial topic. May ruffle a few feathers. But will get attention to the necessary target group. And perhaps social justice. Will see if it works out in the near future. This also makes me want to shy away from getting into any Sales jobs. Earlier, I was crazy about jumping into the first available job. But now, I think I can do more with my life. I should not get into a job that shall take away all my time and energy. I can be of use to society and help those who are under - privileged in society.

We tend to limit ourselves in comfort zones - Don't do it !!!
We are beings with unlimited potential. However, we tend to limit ourselves in many comfort zones. We have been mentally conditioned to limit ourselves. Here is a sample story:-
Some mosquitoes were put in a box and they kept jumping a lot. The box was covered from the top and each time they jumped they hit the top of the box, and when they jumped too close to the right or the left they hit the sides of the box. Slowly, to avoid harming themselves, they learned to jump just under the cover and without reaching the sides of the box. One day all the four sides of the box were opened. The mosquitoes were free, but they kept on jumping as far as the limit they had learned. The physical limits were no longer there. But they had become conditioned mentally. The same thing happens to us. We have to open the sides of the box and take off the top, or we can continue to live inside the box created by our own mind.
Given below are some conditionings under which we work, because of which we do not experience complete freedom.
* Beliefs, acquired since our childhood, which limit us.
* The negative images of low self esteem that we have created of ourselves.
* The damaging thoughts of doubt, which does not let the highway of trust to build up inside ourselves and does not allow the creative energy of positivity to flow from inside us to the outside.
* The fear of failure or not being to able to succeed completely. A lot of times the fear exists due to past experiences of failure or not having succeeded as much as you would have liked.
We need to become aware of what our pattern of thoughts is, which brings us under the negative influence of mental conditionings. When that happens, we will be able to become free of these conditionings. While we do not become aware, we will continue to remain under its influence.
