Good points from the book "Influencer" by Kerry Patterson.
(a) CRITICAL FACTORS
Before you can influence change in others, you need to know the answer to three critical questions:
1) Do you know the specific behaviors you want to change?
2) Will they believe it will be worth it?
3) Do they believe they can do what is required?
If the answers are "No", your attempts at influence likely will be in vain.
(b) MULTIPLE STRATEGIES
Persuation through personal touch, story telling,
(c) PERSONAL MOTIVATION
Make things / work enjoyable. Remove undesirable qualities.
(d) PERSONAL ABILITY
Help people improve by instruction and deliberate practice.
(e) SOCIAL MOTIVATION
Friends, families, role models, buddies.
(f) SOCIAL ABILITY
Strength in numbers. Become part of a group.
(g) STRUCTURAL MOTIVATION
Motivation with rewards / incentives for good work.
(h) STRUCTURAL ABILITY
Create a better / more productive work environment.
This blog documents my MBA student life at Ryerson University, Canada (2010-2012). It was an attempt to demystify the MBA experience, help understand MBA topics & encourage MBA wannabes. I have a Pre-MBA blog about B-School application process (and a few other blogs) as well. I used to blog actively in the past and interact with readers regularly, but life got very busy after my MBA. Good luck. Take care. Cheers! Gerry.
