This discussion is a bit like politics: A bit like right wing and left wing thinking (just replace the word "government" with "Business School", and people with students... do you get the point?). Right wing thinking: Oh, do away with the big bad government - people should take care of themselves. Left wing thinking - The government has to take care of everyone.

So what is the reader's take on this matter? Should the business school "provide" for the students? Should a business school make sure that students get jobs - more like left wing thinking. Or should the business school leave students to their fate, and what ever happens, happens (right wing thinking). I do not know the answer to this question. But I do know that students need help, even if not spoon feeding.

Now, if a business school has plenty of networks, all over the industrial landscape, then, it is easy to place students. I DO know that McMaster University (DeGroote), York University (Schulich), U of Toronto (Rotman), Queen's MBA and UWO (Ivey) ALL of the have SOLID connections to the industry.

To add my personal statistics and information:
  • Salary before Ryerson MBA:  - the highest salary in during my stay in Canada: $72,000 / year.
  • I found my summer internship myself, on my own, by emailing multiple companies, and it was an unpaid internship in the sense that the company I worked for, did not pay me directly.
  • Salary during my summer 2012 internship (May, June, and July 2012): $4000 total (for 3 months), or $1333.33 per month. This $4K was paid by the school.
  • The school had no direct tie ups with healthcare companies or hospitals for internship opportunities. That means that the student is in the same situation as that in the open market - no special advantage of being an MBA student. There needs to be an improvement in the industry relations and industry connections. The current situation is not that great. It is a misconception that jobs are spoon-fed to people when they join Business schools. You have to fight for it yourself.
  • Current status (September 2012): I am in the final term of the MBA (taking only course per term) & unemployed, with no internship . Some of my classmates have have graduated as part of the full time batch recently, have found jobs, but many of them have not (they have just completed internship, and are weeks away from the graduation ceremony).
There has been no official salary statistics released by Ryerson University so far - in the sense that there has been no breakdown into Part Time and Full Time students.

The MOST IMPORTANT QUESTIONS are these (considering that most of the students in Ryerson MBA program are Part Time, not full time. These part time students already hold jobs - jobs that they held BEFORE they started the MBA - and that affects the salary statistics):
  • What is the salary report for FULL TIME MBA students?
  • How much were they making before they joined the MBA program?
  • How much did they make after the MBA program, as a direct result of acquiring an MBA?
